Snowflake Project Done!

Good Morning All!

I hope you are having a incredible week!  Just a quick Christmas post.  I received a text from my sister Kim yesterday .  She wanted to know how to make the snowflakes we made a few years back for her house at Christmastime.  After four years the snowflakes are showing their age and she wanted new ones.

I learned how to make these from some very sweet nurses at a hospital in Burnet, Texas about 8 or so years ago.  I believe that Martha Stewart has something similar or at least I have seen something she has made to make something like this so it may be old hat to some.

Anyway, here’s my version.   Hope you can use it in some of your decorations.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Have an awesome day!

  3. Very awesome! I think I might just use this for my decorations this year. In the Netherlands we have "Sinterklaas" which we celebrate in the evening of december 5th (yes tonight!) so we have to wait with the christmas decorations at least untill the 6th. So, as of tommorrow I'm going to think of a decoration idea for our living room and decorate it at the same time! No worries, we still have time!!

  4. I always wondered how those huge, intricate looking snowflakes were made. Thank you for putting up a video on how to make them. I'm going to have to give it a try. Thank you for taking the time to make the video. And...KIM...thanks for asking!!!

  6. This is very cool. I haven't seen this before. I am going to surprise my sister, and when she comes home from work, her house will have snowflakes hanging down with fishing line!

  7. Love the snowflake Jim! I learned how to make these in September and then I showed the ladies at a Crop... we all had a lot of fun! I made smaller ones which look great on a tree (3 1/2" squares) and will be making a few large ones to decorate my studio window. I think I'm going to try the same size you showed and maybe throw in a 12"x12" because I want to see what how large it will be... Thanks for showing us how to make awesome snowflakes. NOTE: we used glue dots for the attaching and they looked great after you finished, but leave them for a bit and they unrolled and came apart. This was with shiny d/s paper. :)

  9. Hi Jim, I have a question.

I'm making a 12x12 scrapbook that will flip open and over from the top. The pages are made with chipboard and card stock and heavily embellished. I'm thinking of using a u-bolt with decorative nut caps on the ends. Do you have any other suggestions???

I love your site and work - I checkin all the time. Thanks for sharing your talent - both artistic and verbal!!!

  12. What a nice, easy Christmas decoration - I like that they're BIG, so many things we make with paper are so small.

You have me wondering about doing this with more or fewer pieces what the effect would be, and different papers.... hmmm, I think I see trying some nice big flowers in my future, and maybe you could round the outside point. Just thinking as I type. Thanks for the inspiration!

  14. I found your blog through the feature spot on SSS Vintage Challenge Blog. I was SO blessed to happen upon your lovely blog today. You have so many delightful projects, and I was SO inspired. Thank you for that!

It would be such a treat to have you start to play along with us, and so.....I would like to let you know about Word Art Wednesday, and invite you to play along. We're always an Anything Goes challenge, and this week we have two awesome sponsors (Really Reasonable Ribbon and Paper Sweeties). I hope you will join us and play along. I would SO enjoy having another "Gentleman Crafter" participate in our challenges. We have only ONE thus far - Arnoldo Romero, who will be our Guest Designer in January. Having you play along would be a real treat.
Have a great week, and I really hope you will join us.

  23. Luv, Luv, Luv it! Thanks so much for the video. I have been making these in miniature for my Christmas tree. I have found squares 4 cm by 4 cm, approx. 1.5 inches square, work best, any smaller & I found it hard to get my tweezers into the smallest section when overlapping & glueing. Thanks again. Hugs, Theresa.
