Take Out Tuesday- Star Lantern Project Template

Good Afternoon Everyone!

The heat is here!  I decided that I needed to get a haircut for a nice cool quaff! So, today I got it buzzed down to a manageable length!  You would think with the bald spot I have that things might chill down pretty well...I totally think that me bald patch acts as a direct sun catcher! Poor old Patch has been burnt for lack of forgetting it's there.  Only when I look in the mirror do I realize that I'm a MONK!

Anyway, now that the heat and humidity is here to stay, the W.T. pool is filled and ready to swim in...hair is cut to a cooler length...ant and mosquito spray is at arms length....then I realized the 4th of July is upon us!  With Independence thoughts rolling around in my head, I decided it was surely time to do a star lantern or actually several to hang out on the front porch to hail in the 4th's fireworks!

For Tonight's Take Out Tuesday I will be a making a 3-dimensional star, then adding holes so that it may be made into a lantern...If you plan to follow along tonight or at a later time with the recorded show, I have included two templates to use to make the project.

If you are a fussy scissor cutter, use this link:

You will need some chipboard of course...probably 3 sheets, some patriotic printed paper,  a tea light or if you have a Michaels around, they have a set of red, white and blue 12/light Bee or Fairy Lights (Christmas Lights) that are on sale 50% off.  Some red, white and blue paint...I think that's it...We shall see what happens...bad or good, it will be fun...

Follow the link below to get to Take Out Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. CST:

The Correspondence Keeper Tutorial Done!

Good Morning Everyone!

I'd like to share a new tutorial with you today...It's a new book that I honestly loved making!  I call it the Correspondence Keeper.  I designed The Correspondence Keeper originally to hold letters that my grandparents corresponded to one another while they were courting back in the 20's.  After I made the first one, I needed a gift and made another for a friend. They will also be able to keep memorabilia for future generations to cherish these bits of history.  I've just completed a tutorial of this project...I hope you give it a try...

You can find the tutorial for this in my shop by clicking HERE....or by following this link:

The Correspondence Keeper

The Correspondence Keeper is a cool little book with many functions.  The book has an outer sleeve for storage.  Unwind the string closure and open to the book.  Unfasten the straps that hold the book in place and peruse through the books contents.  The book has scored and folded envelope and accordion pages that will help you organize and keep old letters, pictures, tags or ephemera.  Then, there are the letter pages to document, list or journal on...

I hope you like it and give it a try.  The tutorial is full of pictures and templates to help you make this awesome book.
Thanks Tons!

The Butterfly Automata is Now Available!

Good Afternoon Everyone!

Wow!  It sure is humid today!  If I sit inside, I get too cold from the air conditioner...If I sit outside I'm dripping!  LOL!  I'm really missing the cool breezes coming in from the Tyrolean Alps!  If I misspelled that let me know...LOL!

On my Tuesday's, Take Out Tuesday's Ustream Show, I promised I would have the Butterfly Automata tutorial available.  So here it is...The Butterfly Automata Tutorial....

This has been one of my Spring class offerings and has been a fun project to make....The Butterfly Automata sits on a sleigh.  When removed from the sleigh, you have access to a little tag book that is stored on the side.  I am also offering a little kit of the precut round circles and precut dowels if you don't want to do these yourself.  They are in my shop.  Please visit my shop HERE or by following the link here:  http://thegentlemancrafter.bigcartel.com/products

I hope you give it a try...

What is an AUTOMATA?

Automata [aw-tom-uh-tuh] A mechanical figure or contrivance constructed to act as if by its own motive power.  Which basically means, turn the handle and the project moves.  With the Butterfly Automata you will turn the handle and the flowers and butterflies spin and go up and down.  Looks hard?  NO, just be patient as it take a second to get everything just right to move properly.  Each one will be different and that’s the joy of automata. The Butterfly Automata has a side opening tag book for all those technique ideas that spin around in your head.

Next week, I have a new cool smaller book tutorial coming!  I'm in love with it...Hope you come by next Friday and check it out!

Thanks Tons!
