Winter Market- Dallas!

Good Evening Everybody!

Like you know by now, I'm at market in Dallas, Texas buying merchandise for the stores.  I think this gets harder the older I become.  How many years have I been doing this...28 years in various jobs!  It may be time to let someone else give it a shot!  I always say I'm tuckered out by the end of the day, but GOOD LAWD, to get up from this comfy hotel chair takes a couple of heaves and then I'm up only to be rewarded with sore muscles and the feet!  Oh the feet!  No joking!  LOL!  I need to get back into shape when I get home!  Just pitiful!  HAHA!

I was reading my comments on past post and the question was raised about what market is.  Market for my neck of the woods, is in Dallas, Texas at the World Trade Center.  It's kinda like CHA, where retailers purchase merchandise to sell in there store, except think of Dallas Market as being about 100 times larger.

I wanted to share something with you all that was so weird!  LOL!  I know it's like in Jim's world everything is weird so no big deal!   Last night in one of the showrooms, Patrick and Company and  Cork Pops hosted an event with wonderfully delicious hors d'oeuvres...Yep I had a couple....maybe 6!  I was hingry... and get this...a palm reader and a Tarot Card reader.  I have no idea why I think this is so bizarre, but I do.  LOL!  So my sales rep talked me into sitting with the Tarot reader which I have never done in my life, probably because I was too scared to know if there was something bad headed my way!  To the contrary...This is what she said...

I was asked to sit down and cut the deck of cards and I did...I sheepishly looked at the woman and probably began to sweat a little!  LOL!  She dealt the cards and began to read....She said I was going to have a wonderful year!  Good grief and thank the gazin' balls!  I began to ease up a little....She said I had recently gone through a stressful time that involved traveling.  She said that was now over and things would begin to be much calmer.  She saw that I would be...hmmmmm, how can I put this so when my mom reads this post she wont be embarrassed or y'all either...I would be, let's just say, I would be "lucky" in April...Amusing me thinks! LOL!  A whole month!  To be honest folks, I think this threw me!  LOL!  Ok, back to the read...Get this though...She said out of the blue...I will be teaching this year...teaching something I love to do!!!!  OK...cool so far...She said let's go alittle farther... I was happy with what I had...Would she think I was crazy if I got up and started running?  I sat and watched the cards reveal themselves....That's when I saw it!  The Death Card!  I knew it, I just knew it!  Here's where the wammy comes in!  I think I said something like, OH Lawd!  Hahahaha!  She said Oh that's a good card...Not to fear...She said there would be a very nice change or transition in my life that I will know about in October but would not happen until November though March of next year.  Weird huh?  Lawd knows I'll be grabbing the voodoo dolls and pins next...NOT!  Hahaha!

OK, Tomorrow, I will post some pictures of cool merchandise, displays and inspiration I've seen the last couple of days, but tonight, I'm throwing in the towel and going to bed...I'm pooped!

Thanks Gang for Coming By!  Oh... and Thank you all for the well wishes!  I am much much better!  Feeling almost my normal self again!  Yahoooo!  Thanks Again!

Night Y'all!

Jim

  4. I am still going with my belief that I left in another comment on a previous post of your Jim and that is that you will be the next Ranger Signature Designer! I even think you will have your own set of Stampers ANonymous stamps. The brand will be 'The Gentleman Crafter' and it will be huge!!!

  8. Jim, I've always thought you would be the next T!m, you my man have such style and talent you will have your own line with Sizzix like Dyan and Tim. There's no doubt in my mind. I've never had a reading done either but would love to. In regards to the achyness, it gets worse with age. I'm 53 and sure know what you mean. Have fun at market!

  9. Happy Sunday to you! Thanks for explaining a little about the TX Market.... clear as mud now! LOL We have Furniture Market here in NC, so I'm guessing it's like that with manufacturer show room displays, but what merchandise do you buy for what stores? LOL I just don't know what kind of work you do I guess. As far as your feet.... you should expect them to hurt now that you've been on concrete for CHA and now this show too. I think it is a normal thing. The tarot cards... agreed it is exciting and weird all at the same time, but you know your life has already changed with the Tim Holtz design work... like he says.... enjoy The Journey! I think you're going to go far in the craft industry!

  11. Ok, Jim... if you become rich and famous as the number one crafter of 3d projects I want you to remember all of us who followed you way back when.

Market sounds fun but tiring. Hope you slept well.

  12. Oh yes...I see in the cards ( old maid cards!) that you will have your own paper construction business with inks, stains, stamps and embellishments....and you will come to burnet to show them all off.....just sayin!!!! Love the Dallas market...the decorative painting convention was there and I taught there that year.....

  14. woo hoo, your fans get to ride along on the journey with you this year to see what unfolds. Will it be with a current co. or will the Gentleman Crafter have something all his own?

  15. Oh man! I don't know if I have the courage to have my "cards" read. It sounds like your reader had an inside track on you...teaching, big changes and all. I just know at least some of it is true because it's already happening for you.

Get yourself some ibuprofen for now...it will help your sore feet and muscles...seriously!

  16. Hmmm, a Gentleman Crafter line maybe? I'd definitely purchase it!

Hit the hot tub at the hotel and soak those barking dogs and aching legs - throw in a good glass of wine and then you'll feel like a new man.

  17. Oooooo, a reading. Yeah, that exciting and scary all at the same time, ha ha ha. Well we all didn't need a reading to know that wonderful things are in your future. I agree with everyone, you will be a star! Believe it! A Gentleman Crafter line? Sign me up. Thanks for the update on market.

  18. Ooh you are brave! I've never had my cards read as I'm too scared! I'm sure all your followers would predict the same though (but I don't know about the getting lucky in April part)! I think that Cassandra is right and that you will soon have your own product lines and all the fame that goes with it. Maybe the card reader is one of your blog followers and she knew already? It's only a matter of time before someone begs you to teach for them and you will be a natural at it! I only ask that if you come to the UK to teach at Dyan's please will you save me a place? I would love to learn at the feet of the master (even if those feet are aching)! I hope that you slept well and are raring to go again - who knows, this may be your last Dallas market (in a good way of course)!

  19. I had to laugh at your story about the card reader, actually not! Years and years ago a friend of mine suggested that her aunt read my tea leaves. So I had a cup of tea and let her read the leaves. After the reading she put the tea leaves in a square of gauze, had me rub them on a wart I had on my elbow that I'd been thinking of having surgically removed, and then behold.....take this square of gauze, wrapped up, and place it in the middle of the first intersection that I crossed on my way home. I was to stop in the middle of the street, get out of my car and place it in the middle of the road. Not believing one dang word she said, I did like she told me to do, praying that I would not get picked up by a cop.

The wart disappeared and everything she told me in that reading came true! Needless to say I have not had my fortune told again. Some of the things were good and some were very painful for me.

But wait there is more. 30 years ago a very dear friend of mine, who reads the lines in the palm of your hand, read mine. Everything she read has come true, and she also said I have a long "life" line. Now Jim, my Mother died 3 months short of her 93rd birthday. To say I am hopeful would be an understatement.

Congratulations on such a good read!

  20. Greetings from TOTOville :) the great thing about your read is that you will forget all about it and in the fall something fabulous will happen and your mouth will drop open and with a breath you will say...oh my. You are an amazing artist!!! Who knows which dream will come true for you. Oh, and we can't wait to see what the Spring brings :)

  21. I am still unsure what your "day job" is. Do you work in the craft industry?
I think you are fantastic in what you do - your imagination, creativity, and ability to carry your ideas through are without compare. I don't think you needed a Tarot reading to tell you that you are on your way to bigger and better things!
Hopefully she got the dates wrong and it will be sooner rather than later - to protect your poor feet! LOL!

  24. Card reading has never been in the cards for me!!!!! Don't think I want to know the future. I would rather just live it. . . . good or bad. Just one less thing to worry about. Besides, I am not a believer in that kind of stuff.
Market sounds fun. Can anyone attend or is it just for wholesale. Walking is tiring, but checking out fun stuff like you have shown in recent trips, would just take my mind off of sore feet and the like. I love doing that sort of thing. Would like it even more if I had endless funds to support my champagne taste instead of a beer budget, so to speak. But we will live vicariously thru you Jim. Have a great time. Looking forward to pics.
