First Attempt At Being Dylusioned!

Hello Everybody!

In celebration of finishing a September project for  Graphic 45, I gave myself a little treat!  Time to play with Dyan's, Dylusions inks and stamps!  Y'all I had a blast!  Once I got the blasted plastic off the bottles...(That was a trip!  LOL!) I went to town and sprayed everything including my hand...well, more like my arm, desk and shirt in Postbox Red!  So know I hear ya about overspray!  LOL!  Easily cleaned up!  I really got lost in it and had so much fun trying to figure out how to do it!  I've got a lot of learning' to do Lucy!  Now I've got to have more stamps!  WIll it ever end?  Guess not!

SO if you promise not to laugh, I will show you my first attempt.  LOL!

I used a white opaque pen to go around the leaves as I had seen Dyan do at CHA.  Pretty cool how it adds a little something...

You can see a little bit of the ghosting of the letters in the picture below.  Ok, squint real hard and look!  LOL!  I'm loving this technique and can't wait to do it again on better paper.

 Things I've learned...

  • I think I need to have a heavier/nicer cardstock.  It was as though my papers ate the ink.  I did spray the sheet first with water and then applied the ink.
  • Need to have more paper towels on hand for clean up.
  • Next time a larger craft sheet
  • Open your spritzer bottle away from your project LOL!
  • Don't wear your good white work shirts while doing this. :)
  • Have more time to play because it could be very addictive!

Well, That's It!  Y'all Have a Great Night and thanks for coming by!

  7. Fabulously better then my first attempt would be. As I recall the first time I saw Dyan demoing her products, I remember seeing a huge roll of paper towels right above the project. It looked messy, but a lot of fun to play with as long as you had your work area preped for the mess. Reminds me of fingerpainting as a kid. I love the white highlighting you did around certain areas. Really adds alot of pop.

    1. Marcie, I believe Dyan calls them a kitchen roll. Being from Texas, I call them paper towels! LOL! TO me a kitchen roll sounds too much like food, LOL! Some wonderful bakery product! :)

      Hugs to ya!

  9. Isn't it fun.....like making mud pies when I was little!!!! I haven't figured out how to control the mess......could be once I get started I ca nt stop and have to spray everything in sight!!! Did you use a journal book? Why did your first attempt turn out better than all mine?????!!!! LOL! What colors did you use.....just love he color.....did you do a lot of over spraying to get the deep yummy color...or just less water on the age? You did a great job!

  10. I love those Dylusion products. I got to take her class at CHA. She's awesome! For the overspray, Clearsnap makes a color catcher (Donna Salazar) or make one out of a cardboard box. I just store it under a desk until I need it again. Try painting flowers and stuff with the ink too! My daughter takes all her scraps and spritzes them to make flowers to match every project, no matter what the leftover paper is.

  11. Dyan sent me here from Twitter. You did a great job! I still get so messy when I use the sprays - I wear flip flops in my craft room & end up with coloured toes! - but it's such fun that I don't care.

  16. Helpful tip here. You know those awesome non rip bags that dog food come in? I cut those open to use them as drop cloths for my crafting/painting. Want to come over Saturday and demo for me? I am having Stampin Up people come. All kinds of stamps and maybe I might lend you some out of my library!!

  17. Gave me my morning giggle. I can just see your work shirt turned craft shirt getting all inky. And I always learn something from the comments. I use red rosin paper for my work surface for bigger things. Then I can cut it up and use it in other projects. Will be watching for more inspiration. thanks as always for sharing.

  19. Every time my friends and I see anything white we all yell Dylusion It! We were looking at curtain panels in Ikea yesterday and did it - everyone around us looked at us as if we were nuts. You did a fabulous job Jim as always. Shared this with my store page on facebook

  20. Jim, you make me laugh...I didn't ruin good white work clothes but certainly have "initiated" several t-shirts...LOL!!! You might as well make that shirt your art smock and just have at it.

Now you know why I NEEDED to take Dyan's classes at The Crafty Scrapper back in May!!!! I LOVE being Dylusioned!!!

  21. I love Dylusions and Colour Wash sprays. I use a cardboard box with newspaper in it for spraying into, otherwise our clothes would suddenly become very colourful indeed as I use my ironing board as a part-time craft table. To be perfectly honest it's used more for craft than ironing, LOL! Keep having fun ... that's what it's all about.

  22. I'm going to have to read all of the comments here because I see a lot of people sharing even MORE tips... and it does look like fun!! I belong to a couple of crafting groups and I swear they never see me in anything but paint and ink splattered shirts and pants (sometimes with holes, too; you don't want to throw away a good crafting shirt...) If they saw me dressed nicely, they wouldn't know it was me! Now I'm off to see this Robot-O guy....

  23. AND, P.S. I love your ??? whatever it is... try out piece? You're right about the white. I love the dotted leaves at the top. An art journal must be just on its way...

  24. I recently bought my first Dylusions sprays and I am in LOVE. I need more of them, more stamps, and her masks/stencils are great. It is so much fun to play with...and nothing has to be "just so" like it does on a lot of projects. Glad you discovered it...oh....a heavy weight water color paper works really well.

  25. Great piece! I am loving the Dylusions sprays too. Had to use them on cards for a team project. My number one hint is to spray with them in a box! I found it contained the ink from traveling all over my desk! It took me two cards to think of this. Thanks for sharing your great work.

  26. This is wonderful! You gave me a great idea for a page I have 'in progress' and what I want to do next! Keep up the 'Dylusion' hehe it is a blast!

  27. I love the Dylusions line of products, they rock and are so much fun to play with! You piece is fabulous!!!

  28. Ya Jim, fabulous work, I love it. Don't worry about over spreay, the messier the better because then you just mop it all up with other tags or journal pages... nothing wasted. But I do have every square inch covered in non stick craft sheet, lol. Keep up the good work xxx

  29. You're rockin' it Mr. Jim!
You're SO right, it is addictive!

  30. No laughing here - except at some of your comments.. (don't wear white shirt....), Love your first attempt! Sweet white accents.

I have a table I taped a 3' roll of craft sheet to; Love when an lss will sell it that way. That, and Tim Holtz's art apron keep most of me clear of overspray. (says she of the rainbow colored hands...)

Sweet blog - looking forward to reading more!

  31. I think it turned out fantabulous!!! I really believe with that style....anything goes. Instead of using paper towels to blot up the overspray... mash and swirl manila tags into it!! Will make great backgrounds for future tags!

  32. I love your first try at the sprays and stamps...I think it is great!!!!! I just started trying backgrounds with the Distress Inks and it is very addictive. There is a lady from the Blog Art of Craft and she does backgrounds with inks and stamps that look like they are painted. Thats what got me started. I want to try the dylusions sprays they are so bright and fun. Keep up the great work.

  34. Dylusions are the best! I ordered my very 1st stamps and sprays from Dyan's shop and jumped for joy when Ranger snagged her. After my 1st experiment, I spent good crafting time cleaning my carpet. Now everything is covered with lawn bags - spray freedom. I envy people who seem to have total control over their misters.
Your 1st outing in Dylusion land is beautiful and I won't say a word about a certain white shirt.I just got her book in the mail yesterday which made me go and order the Christmas stamps and stencils. It's just too much fun.

  36. I took a class last weekend based on Ranger techniques. i gotta tell you, I am hooked on these sprays! I have all of them, and some of her stencils. Of course, now I want/need/have to have them all!Just plain fun and addicting.

  37. I have only used thse on canvas or very thick cardstock. Love the colors. I purchased 2 bottles over the weekend (with a coupon!). I also snagged a few more templates to try. One thing I have done: use a modeling paste to spread onto a template. Lift off template and allow paste to dry. Then spray with the dylusions. oohhhh, it looks so very coolio. And I sprayed my glasses! They wer NOT on my face...they were on the table and got the overspray! oops!

  38. Hi Jim, Wow! 1st attempt & it looks amazing. Looking forward to seeing more of your Dylusions projects in the future.

  39. I've been afraid to get into these...I have soooooo much product now, and not nearly enough time to use it all. But every time I see a project like this, it beckons to me. Seems like it would be really liberating, and maybe open up new areas of creativity in the brain. Your first attempt is really impressive!

  40. What a gorgeous creation!!!! Haven't tried the Dylusions yet.....but thinking I need to....and I wanted to Thank you so much for your sweet comment on my blog!!!

  41. Hi Jim, you made me laugh out loud again...thanks...i really love what you have done with this and the white pen accents sure pop off the page...oops pop only needs one "o" not two. As for the white shirt...i would do that, you know crawl under some piece of machinery and get grease and stuff all over, or go black berry picking in light pants and tshirt...lol....oh well, live and learn and attempt not to repeat...
    have a truly lovely day.

  42. Good job! I'm beginning to think there isn't anything you can't do and do well! Beautiful pages!! You should see my guest bathroom if you want to talk overspray. Even the floor is green half the time. But it does wash off easily. :-) I taught a 4 year old to use the sprays and he picked out the best color combos. Enjoy.
